Medical education

We are a training practice and we may offer you an appointment with a GP registrar. These doctors are fully qualified and will have worked in several hospitals. They are completing their specialist training as a GP.

We also teach medical students and sometimes we may ask you to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. We will always ask you if this is acceptable. You may ask for the student to leave if you prefer to have your appointment in private.

Historically, management of learning environments has been at individual practice level, which focusses the work on a few individuals within that one practice. With a move to PCN-wide learning environments, PCNs will have the opportunity to host learners across multiple practices, creating an integrated pathway for learning.

Health Education England recognise the key role that PCNs take in increasing the workforce in Primary Care and will work with PCN teams to expand their educational capacity to develop and support a sustainable workforce, to grow and support learners across all professions.

HIPC PCN is currently seeking approval to provide an education learning environment as a network, this approval will develop new ways to support and develop our educational capacity. It is hoped that in the long term this will positively impact capacity across Primary Care as a whole.

Dr Catherine Harris who is GP Partner for Furlong Medical Centre is also Environmental Education Lead for HIPC PCN and Multi professional education learning environment Lead for Staffordshire Training Hub.
